We need a replacement for the Humvee. The Humvee is a scout jeep, not an attack vehicle (which it is being used as) This will be much better armored and less vunerable to things like IEDs

That is not true; the HUMVEE is doing things right now that it was NEVER intended to do. It is too small and it is too light, we are deploying peace-time vehicles into combat zones...which is why the military is getting rid of them.

The bottom is not flat. It is designed to direct the blast out to the sides of the vehicle.

There are several variants of differing lengths and payload requirements. This is just one variant of many. Just like Joint Strike Fighter there are many variants of JLTV.

The JLTV will be powerful because it uses the same electro-motive technology that a train locomotive does. A powerful generator provides current to traction motors that turn the wheels, just like on a locomotive. This means excellent fuel economy and many fewer parts due to the lack of a transmission and associated complications with a traditional automobile drivetrain.One of the requirements for the JLTV is that it must provide power like a generator and it does that with electro-motive.

Thw JLTV is replacing the Humvee in 2011. The 160000 HUmvees are going to be taken out of commission and by 2011 50000-60000 JLTVs will be deployed. The JLTV is more advanced it technology. It is also more fuel efficient. The main reason the came out with the JLTV was because the war in iraq. The JLTV is better off-road because it has better suspension and can be raised and lowered depending on the situation. It also has better armor and can take an ied better than a humvee. THERE!
