No one of the 20th century could sing both opera and pop AND jazz as well as Farrell did. She was the greatest overall singer of the epoch.

Couldn't agree more - she sounds like the real thing!

What a great artist. She truly shows us that a classical trained person can sing "popular" music stylistically correct. Some of the modern day divas need to take this lesson to heart. I hate hearing them trying to sing music of this style in their overly correct style.

One of my favourite artists.

I fell in love with "Waltzing Mathilda", the Australian "national anthem" when Eileen Farell did the singing for Eleanor Parker in the movie "Interrupted Melody". As I write this, I can hear her voice now singing to the Australian wounded soldiers during WWII. A world and lifetime away - but never forgotten.

I see what you're getting at. she attempts to cram more technical difficulty the song deserves, probably. we're used to more "conversational" singing styles in Gershwin. Still a great treasure of record.

My favorite soprano of all times !

This woman could sing in different styles equally well! Oh, did I love this voice.
