Wrong, some may enlist for these reasons but most don't. I know many soldiers personally and they all enlisted out of patriotism. Again a canuck thinks they know more about the U.S. than we do.

people "choose" to enlist as a last resort. Desperate for health care and a paid college tuition, these unfortunate children will do anything to ensure their future, even at the risk of losing it. Your flawed health care and education systems are the reasons for enlisting, not patriotism and nationalism.

Phil is right, the Iraq war did not improve American security from terrorism. Iraq did not possess WMDs or harbor terrorist cells anywhere near the size of the ones in Peshawar.Bill is right, the surge worked and gave Iraq a shot at democracy. Pulling out completely in 2005 or 2006 we would be witness to the birth of a terror state in civil war.Hindsight shows that polarized opinion makers are rarely, if ever, right 100% of the time.

And did you see what happened when we did? Vietnam ring any bells? Shit went down over there and we lost that war. Oh yeah people can say that we won, but we got killed in a shit field over there to quote Tim O'Brien. And Sudan still needs help. Bush hasn't done shit. Darfur was rarely brought up during the McCain v Obama debates. I just hope Obama will do something about it.

Fighting for our freedom? We are perfectly free. My next door neighbor lost his leg because of this war. His brother is of age, but did not enlist. The one who lost his leg was proud that his brother was not stupid enough to enlist. There aren't WOMD over there.
