While he may be a Christian, his band he was with with whom he wrote the song was not. None of the music and lyrics written with Sunny Day Real Estate were ever meant to have any spirituality in them. Even in his solo stuff, he tries to avoid that.

This song makes me sad yet happy at the same time. It's worthless, ultimately, though--Christians (this dude is a born-again christian) have such a pedestrian way of thinking that it kind of ruins the song once you know his belief system.
