sorry to point this out - but the ulster volunteer force that fought in the somme is entirley different to the paramilitary uvf - people just used the old name to invoke memories and justify their use of violence when they 'reformed' the uvf in the build up to the troubles. so don't pretend that they're one and the same, because they are not and never were.

The problems between Ireland and The UK are very much fostered and maintained by the power elite on both Islands. In their minds, it's always easy to pit one set of peasants against another. They create the illusion of inpenetrable violence. Who on earth would DARE invade Ireland or Britain? Who would, even today, fuck with The IRA, the UDA or The UVF? The British Army is kept on it's toes. Blood is spilled and hearts broken, aye, surely, but everyone wins and the gods of war are happy!
