As much as I like Willie and the sound of that fantastic guitar of his, I would LOVE to see EC do this song on his own. Elvis is one of the most underrated entertainers and vocalists. He has such a great presence.

I would have to count Patsy as lucky. Supposedly she didn't like the song and couldn't sing it at first until she changed Willie's jazzy vocal phrasings to strait normal pop country style. The reason she is lucky, she was talked into doing the song and it far surpassed any other she ever did. Willie was lucky also. It shot Patsy to legendary status, but helped Willie get recognised as a songwritter. Other country stars like Farron Young started seeking him out and paying him better. Peace. |
