There is no such thing as 'epic metal'. Just because they sing about Vikings doesn't make that a sub-genre. They could have an album thats about puppies and kitties, would you call it Puppy-Kitty Melodic DM? Hegg has said in countless interviews that they don't consider themselves to be 'viking-metal', thats just what they happen to sing about.
