In the early days, Ferry and the guys were quite theatrical in their appearance and clothing. Ferry's green suit, red suit, military uniforms, thin moustache, etc., were part of the show they wanted to present at that time. There is an avante garde aspect to his work and this came out in some of his songs and in his stage persona.

Yes, the song is about cocaine. In an article or interview the writer stated that Ferry was once addicted to cocaine. Ferry notified the publisher that he was never an addict and a correction was printed. What other rock star would insist on this addendum? Ferry is an unusual fellow. So far as I can tell, he was never arrested for drugs, never bagged a perforamnce or interview because inebriated, and never spent time in rehab. So he seems to have avoided the pitfalls of the glam life.
