I checked the laws on Safe Deposit Boxes. if the bank fails, the contents can me auctioned for cash without notification. You'd get the money, but the bank could sell it for peanuts.

I never keep a safe deposit box. I keep backup copies of documents in more than one place. I also have accounts in three unaffiliated banks.

bank of america treated me like royalty when my account was hacked, 2 purchases of 99cents each over drafted my account (so $22 fine on each of those). and, since i thought that account was shut down after calling to stop the payment and close it; you could imagine my shock when i tried to open a bank account 4 years later and found out i'm "blacklisted", because B.O.A. has charged me $7 a day... for that entire time... 4 years... without notifying me of the charges.hooray for dickhead banks.

Good ole Bank of America, if nothing else we can count on our banking behemoths to spy on us and seize or freeze anything they can. After all, if they don't tell the IRS where all our money is they can't earn interest on all those treasuries they hold. As Reagan found out, most of the Federal Income Tax goes to pay interest to these bankers anyways.
