Houston area trumpeter Randy Dunn performs Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D on the piccolo trumpet, accompanied by organ. This selection is frequently heard at weddings, often used as music for the procession of the bridesmaids (and other attendants) or for the entrance and seating of the mothers. This piece is also one of the best known and most beloved pieces of classical music of all time and is therefore also often heard in concerts, movies, and television progams. It can also be frequently heard in church services, usually for prelude, postlude, communion, or offertory music.

Thanks for the kind compliments! How long it takes to learn to play something depends on how much you pratice and study each day. With hard work and practice, it won't take too long. Just be patient. You could probably play parts of the Pachelbel Canon down an octave already. Go for it! Best wishes, and keep on playing the cornet & trumpet.

I have a few tips in some of my articles on the Blog page of my website that you might find helpful. I hope to add more articles there soon, if I can ever find the time.A good piccolo trumpet costs about the same as a good Bb trumpet, and there is a wide range of prices, depending on the brand.

Yes, because of the smaller bore, there is more resistance.

You definitely need a good, strong upper register and good endurance (the two go together) on the standard Bb trumpet before you can begin sucessfully playing the piccolo trumpet. Check out my articles about playing the piccolo trumpet on the Blog page of my website for more information. I hope to write some new articles there soon about how to build range and endurance. Good luck to you!

Hey, thanks! That's a Getzen Eterna piccolo trumpet with a Blackburn leadpipe. (Blackburn leadpipes now come standard on the newer Getzen Eterna piccolos.) I play a Bb Bach Strad also (and a C Bach Strad.) To find answers to probably most of your piccolo trumpet questions, visit the Blog page of my website and read my piccolo trumpet articles there. Best wishes to you!

Yes, before attempting to play the piccolo trumpet, you must first have a good, solid upper register and good endurance on the standard Bb trumpet. And yes, you are right: It is more difficult to keep the piccolo trumpet in tune, for several reasons. For more information about playing the piccolo trumpet, go to the Blog page of my website and read my articles there about playing the piccolo trumpet. I hope to find time soon to also write some articles on how to increase range and endurance.

Yes, you should have good high range and endurance on the standard Bb trumpet first, before attempting to play the piccolo trumpet, since it is a more difficult instrument to play. And yes, it is more difficult to play the picclo trumpet in tune, for several reasons. The piccolo trumpet is pitched an octave higher than the standard Bb trumpet. So you wouldn't want to start playing the piccolo trumpet until you have a good, solid upper register and good endurance on the Bb trumpet. See my piccolo trumpet articles on the Blog page of my website for more information. Best wishes to you!
