Thank you, Zecalouro. I have 'heard' the CD version many times, now I can 'see' it. "Super Diva" Elis Regina and the "world's greatest instrumentalist" Hermeto Pascual: a perfect pair, not 'mailing it in' but 'pushing the envelope' to create something that transcends every version of this song I have ever heard. she says there are way too many buttons for him to handle. she basically challenges hermeto there. he takes it and puts elis into test. hermeto tries elis, by continuously changing the rythm and harmony of the song, so as to make elis' attempt of singing on key considerably more difficult. that's why you think the piano's been put left out in the rain, but that's sheer talent and technique on hermeto's part. and of course - needless to say - on elis' as well. |
