there was the great split ("schizma") in 5? century, when the roman pope decided to be independent from the Constantinople patriarch.Orthodoxy conserves original believe, for example it rejects existence of purgatory, doesnt have `filioque` etc.

The difference is America can be complete cunts, all "down with Russia" blah blah blah, and people will think nothing of it. They're the worlds Super power they won't do something stupid, (well....) but with Russias past and it's huge differences to American politically, and probably religiously (which supprisingly has a huge effect) people can't think beyond the difference, and get past the "evil" image. btw what is Russias main religion?? On topic though, that's a fking BEAST!
