Anyway she was the true love of her life !

Vivien was too "alive", her personality did her name honor. Fontaine's acting strikes me not as "boring" but passive. Vivien would indeed have been perfect to play Rebecca (have you people read the book? That character is like tailor-made for her damn it!). Too bad Hitch didn't have an actress play Rebecca. I think that the contrast between Leigh and Fontaine's personalities would have been a joy to watch.

Fontaine was a boring actress and therefore pretty successful as the colorless little "I."

you're welcome!

It seems Alfred Hitchcock himself agree with that sentiment as well

They surely would never seperate if only she was not ill. Poor little Vivling.

But the memory of them will live forever.

Vivien's own personality has little do with this as she was a great actress. Vivien proved she was great as a delicate Myra Lester in "Waterloo Bridge". She indeed did this screen test badly but with Hitch's direction she would make it not worse than Mrs. Fontaine.

He had a wonderful voice! Especially when he was younger--very powerful and soothing, perfect for theatre |
