But somehow this stage version seems a whole lot more contrived than the original. And the way Palin slapped his thighs and enthusiastically chewed his gum had a lot more colour for mine.

I agree. It was a bit of a surprise seeing Eric as the lumberjack. Michael stated that his portrayal of the lumberjack made him a bit nervous, and he was slapping his thigh throughout the whole thing just to get through the sketch.. Eric was more of a natural, comfortable performer, so Michael says.
