continue to build a good proven platform and fill it with latest avionics, engines, weapons, control systems and then apply RAM. It would be a very interesting contest between Su-37 Terminator, Su-47 Golden Eagle, Mig-29 OVT and F-22 Raptor.

as for raptor its only recently achieved operational status and only based at 1 place so there arent many of them. it'll take time to train pilots to use it. its a VERY complex airplane and i imagine would have teething problems that ALL airplanes have regardless of origin.Russia has a different look on stealth. They prefer to optimise aerodynamics first and then develop radar-absorbing paint which is a good move.

it can also be jammed or decieved if used at long range from airplane that fired it. Currently the missile that is the hardest to evade is R-73 with its combined aerodynamic and thrust controls and can turn inside the turn radius of aircraft or missile.As for Russia being too poor to buy it, there is time for everything, currently noone will attack it any time soon. They have a right to be angry about having missiles next door as it reeks of cold war that the world apparently put behind.

Aerodynamically Raptor is inferior to Flankers and Fulcrums due to some pars of it being optimised for stealth rather then optimum airflow. While raptor has some highly advanced avionics, history of russian "asymetric response" could find a solution. A 2-metre-long wavelength radar in particular has no problem at all finding and tracking a stealth aircraft hence negating its otherwise big advantage. As for BVR combat, missile itself isnt stealth and can be shot down.

Russians have no aerodynamic advantage over America. There advantage comes from more extreme trust vectoring angles. There planes have there advantages but in modern A2A combat I dont hink they would be able to be much of a challange.
