I disagree with that assessment, but, yes, it is available.Find the very first "Saturday Night Live," and you will see Janice and no one else perform this incredible song.In fact, NBC recently rebroadcast that show, and I had my DVR running, not remembering her performance.I was captivated, only vaguely remembering this timeless classic, and have held back from purging it from the hard drive because of it.Even as a guy just turned 40, I can relate so well, though life has turned around now.

So I stumbled upon Celine's cover of this song today and it brought me to tears. I had never heard this song and was blown away by the lyrics, so honest and powerful. Of course I love it so cause like many of us here I can relate oh so well. The cover was stunning and so is the original.

I have to thank Celine Dion for this. She did a cover on some award show last night and I literally stopped in my tracks once she sang her vision. I have been listening to this track non-stop for the past 2 days. What's funny is that I can relate to the lyrics. I was always a bit of an outsider as a kid.

I only knew of Janis Ian from watching an old rerun of Saturday Night Live that aired maybe 5 years ago.. Perhaps even longer, whenever the E! Channel started showing SNL I remember for a while they aired all the episodes of the 70's.I saw Janis performing this song and was blown away. It's so simple and yet so honest of a song.

Those of us who were outside of the clics in high school can understand this song, but many of those "perfect" people never progressed past thier fame in high school An example of that for me was when the class president of my HS got busted for cocaine possesion a few years after graduation..during HS, he and all his friends were always role models we were suppose to follow. No thank you.

Oh boy...that this was lost on my generation graduating H.S. in '87 only makes me weep more for today's kids. However--the fact that Celine Dion--of all people--did it tonight on some Grammy nominee announcement show--and very well (i.e. w/ no vocal histrionics whatsoever)--gives me hope.
