One more time: Nobody was shouting bravo when I was there. How many of the papers you refer to counted her among today's best Marschallins? The reviews I read were merely polite and didn't mention her stale acting or lacking stage presence which I thought odd because she was a hopelessly uncharismatic Marschallin. Aside that she was barely audible much of the time in the smallish house. Talk about a Rosenkavalier final duet. A great success? For who?

There is no need for further discussion. One can read critics in the archives of for instance International Herald Tribune, Opera News, Der Neue Merker, Helsingin Sanomat, Turun Sanomat, Etelä-Suomen Sanomat and Etelä-Saimaa and see, who is telling the truth. Unfortunately there is no space here to copy them.Because MReferee didn´t hear the bravos, it´s now easy to understand some of his comments. When one succeeds in her or his career, there are always people who don´t like it.

I repeat: Nobody was shouting bravo and none of the critics were raving for Isokoski or the production. If there had been bravos surely they would have been heard by everybody, don't you think? To mlammermoor: Are the sounds between 0:40 - 0:59 what you call "floating"? Floated means a disembodied completely freely flying sound. Listen to Caballé and you get the idea.

One has to wonder what the goals of Isokoski´s compatriot MReferee are. He tells that nobody was not shouting bravos after the Helsinki Rosenkavaliers. Everyone who was there knows that this is not true. One can also read all the critics and see that they were not merely polite. As mrlammermoor wrote it´s really sad that envious people use YouTube to write unfounded comments to every video

One more thing, OperLieder aka saturNus5: Nobody was even shouting bravo after the Helsinki Rosenkavaliers and the critics were merely polite. I think I already explained some of the reasons for this. You want to call it a great audience success? Be my guest.

This envious nonexpert MReferee is telling his own stories against Isokoski on YouTube. Isokoski´s Marschallin in Helsinki was a great audience success and the critics praised her.For instance International Herald Tribune: Soile Isokoski leaves no doubts about her artistic distinction, with her sumptuously sung, moving portrayal of the Marschallin. The voice — resonant, glowing in timbre and of ideal size — is the perfect instrument for Strauss and is deployed with utmost sensitivity

what a stpid comment. isokoskis marschallin in vienna was everything you can desire for. her articulation was perfect her pp in " die silberne ros'n" was fantastic and she had bothe the charm and the melancholyand if 0:40 - 0:59 is not floated, than what else is...its really sad that envious people use youtube to write unfounded comments to every video

Soile Isokoski's Marschallin in Helsinki was a hopelessly uncommunicative woman staring in the distance with a complete emotional dullness and she just disappeared on the stage. Her technique won't allow floating the sounds, nor crescendos or diminuendos, nor pp's or ff's. It's mezzo piano all the time with no vocal acting whatsoever. A "voce corta" as far as the top is concerned. Small intimate songs on records are her thing but it's clear she didn't receive a proper training for the stage.
