It's realy sad to see an old yacht like this go down and break up. All yachts come to an end and this may be as good a way as any. At least she didn't end her days in some back water just rotting away.

Just a heads up; look at the chop on the water. No time for a pleasure craft. JP

I was in a close situation like that leaving Newport Beach. The curent just 6 feet below the water level will drag a sail boat or any boat with a keel yet a power boat will not be effected. My advise is stay in the mid channel and let all the jet skis, kayaks and power boats go around you, even if your running under power. (P.S. dont let the dumb ass's comment who has never stepped foot on a boat never less sailed one, get you down.) LCDR Paull

I think they tried to anchor. The family that took these pics and are in them on the beach are wonderful people that just happened to live on this beach. They just witnessed it happening, filmed it and called authorities.

A large boat sank today 10.7.09. I was out bodyboarding 2-4 ft. at CDM today and out of nowhere a flotilla of rescue craft appeared but the boat was a total loss thrashed against the jetty.

I'd say good example of just what to do. Stand back and watch it sink from a safe distance.exon12 - Generally the coasties won't rescue a boat unless it is causing a hazard to navigation or endangering people. They leave it to be salvaged later, as they should as they are putting themselves in danger to try to rescue the property. While this is a nice boat(?), it's not worth anyone getting hurt over.
