Hah, they knew they were getting an audience -- didn't need quite that much of the boom-boom, but it looks nice. Of course, they also probably wanted to go ahead and break up the structure a bit to facilitate cleanup (much easier to blow it into pieces than to cut underwater), but I'll just call it showmanship lol.

The debris was cleaned up. It took about a year to complete the cleanup because they had to remove the cement pillars also.

Perhaps you should check your facts before commenting.All of the steel in the bridge was collected and recycled. The concrete spans were taken to two off-shore locations to create artificial reefs.

now i bet they didnt go in the water and clean up after!! nobody gives a shit really and america is the number 1 example of that...i dont hug trees or save the whales but our tax money is spent on that and fuck me if im paying for it id rather see it taken down efficiently with minimal harm to the enviroment.....
